A subway train with mechanical problems at Graham Avenue brought the L-as-in-L0ser line to its knees this morning, but today is Friday, so at least you get to hear people say, "Hey, at least it's Friday!" a phrase that always makes your boiling rage and homicidal frustration simply disappear. 8th Avenue bound L trains were simply "terminating," as the MTA bluntly puts it, at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues, while Canarsie bound L trains were terminated at Lorimer Street. With extreme prejudice.

Gothamist food editor Nell Casey was one of the unfortunate commuters caught in this still-unfolding crisis. Reached by Slack in Williamsburg, she reports, "I didn't get into the [Bedford Avenue] station. Heard an announcement, saw an exodus and ran for the bus." THE BUS. Guess we'll see Nell on Monday maybe?

Service on the L has since resumed, with residual delays. But the commuting nightmare wasn't limited to New York City's most relevant subway line. Tales of lament were heard from commuters on the 2 and 3 lines, where delays were caused by an earlier incident at Clarke Street. Rebecca Fishbein, who pens Gothamist's regular column on weekend subway service changes, was ironically ensnared in these changes. "Crazy delays on 2,3," read her dispatch from hell, which ended on a pitiful note of optimism: "Be there...eventually."

We are currently hiring a new reporter for the weekend subway service changes column. Also, the C train was messed up due to an "earlier incident." Also, the 7. Also, now the A.

How was YOUR commute? I took the ferry; it was pretty peaceful. Sometimes it gets a little lonely with all that space to myself, but the guy who checked my ticket said good morning to me and smiled, so that made me feel good.

If you found this commute frustrating, tell your state representatives and Governor Cuomo to stop robbing the MTA of badly needed funding and figure out a way to come up with more cash for a 21st Century transit system.
