Sidewalk shed

There are 280 miles of sidewalk sheds across the city as of February, according to the DOB.

The Softwalks people are hoping to raise money to fund their pilot project, which would bring seats, planters, and more to sidewalks with sheds.

Two years after they were introduced to the public, the first "Urban Umbrella" scaffolding will hit the streets of Manhattan next month.
