The crafty fellows behind the exceptional and exceptionally expensive hotel cocktail lounge JIMMY at the James have joined forces again for a bar and small plates lounge in Greenwich Village called Rogue & Canon, which they assure us is "approachable." The new venture from Johnny Swet, Larry Poston (who also formerly ran Hotel Griffou) and Yanni Marmarou represents, according to the press release, the "new American 'canon'" and the "'rogue' stylings of Swet (the cocktail maestro)." Could this be thebar of a generation we've been waiting for?! Pretentious P.R. speak aside, it is a good looking place, and we will say that Swet is capable of making a dynamite cocktail.

The interior design features eclectic touches such as handgun lamps and seemingly random stacks of books, along with the requisite exposed brick walls, copper ceilings, and embossed leather banquettes. The bar is 26-foot long bar and features a 3-inch thick solid mahogany bar top, and once spring comes, large French windows will open onto street level.

Swet's cocktail menu mainly uses small batch, artisanal spirits for such concoctions as the Midnight Train to Georgia, which incorporates bourbon, peanut liquor, bacon bitters and rosemary; and American Pie, which features apple jack, apple liqueur and cranberry juice over a cinnamon ice block. Cocktails are $13 and there is also a variety of craft beer on tap.

The food menu from Chef Adam Slamon, meanwhile, features such items as a Mushroom Tart with hedgehog-trumpet royale mushrooms, puff pastry, and trufﬂe vinaigrette shaved gruyere cheese ($12); Welsh Rarebit with brown ale, aged cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions ($8); and a Rogue Burger with peanut butter, crispy pork belly, onion marmalade, aged cheddar, and potato roll ($16).
