The settlement includes $4.1 million from the city, $400,000 from NYCHA, and $25,000 from Officer Liang specifically for Akai Gurley's partner.

Some 20 people protested outside Ken Thompson's Clinton Hill home early this morning, and nearly half were arrested.
A Brooklyn jury convicted Peter Liang of manslaughter and official misconduct in February.
Liang's sentencing was originally scheduled for today.
"They're saying that it's okay to murder someone because they're a police officer."
Liang's attorneys say that one juror withheld the fact that his father served prison time for manslaughter.
The Brooklyn DA recommended 5 years probation, but Peter Liang faces up to 15 years in prison for killing Akai Gurley in 2014.
"He said he was very sorry, that he knows how difficult it is to lose a loved one and that this was the last thing he could have ever imagined happening."
Thompson issued a statement today advocating against a prison sentence.
