Yesterday we learned that a cab driver had been suspended for wearing a Nazi swastika armband. The Anti-Defamation League said the driver’s operator’s license had been suspended for 30 days after he pleaded guilty to violating commission rules. But we hadn't heard from the cabbie himself, and wondered: what if it was a prank taken too far? What if the driver didn't realize the significance of the swastika? What if it was all a terrible, comical misunderstanding? Well rest assured, it wasn't: "If a Muslim can drive a cab wearing a turban, if a homosexual can walk around with a big rainbow flag, why can’t a person like me wear a Nazi armband?" cabbie Gabriel Diaz told the News.

Diaz, 27, was seemingly delighted to have an audience in the News to spout off some boilerplate Nazi rhetoric, saying races should live with their own "kind." "We believe in racial separation and racial segregation," he said. "We’ve been told lies about Hitler." The irony isn't lost on Diaz that seeing as how he's Dominican, the Nazis probably wouldn't have been very friendly toward him in their heyday: "I know it’s very controversial that a non-white is wearing a Nazi armband," he said. "Whoever said you had to be white to be a National Socialist?" Uh, Hitler? Wikipedia? Common knowledge?

Despite the fact that he believes the TLC has infringed upon his civil rights, Diaz said he would comply and not wear the armband anymore on duty: "I’m going to wear it, but not while driving a cab because there’s a lot of crybabies out there in Manhattan, a lot of liberal crybabies, who cry every time they see a symbol of hate." Yeah, why would anyone be upset at seeing insignia that's a visual representation and reminder of the death of millions of people, you crybabies.

For what it's worth, and because you clearly want to know, Diaz doesn't limit his hatred to Jews and non-Aryans like himself: "If I have to apologize, then a homosexual has to apologize for being a homosexual, for being open and gay." Diaz's father and brother both sounded embarrassed by him: "He needs help!" his father Juan Diaz told the News. "Forget all that he say." Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos! Oh wait, Diaz probably wouldn't get that reference. Because, you know, Jews.
