140 school zones will lose their speed cameras on July 26 unless the governor and state legislators act.
The cameras will likely be turned off next month if no action is taken.
Families who lost loved ones to reckless drivers are calling on Golden and other senate republicans to return to Albany and pass speed camera legislation.
It's so Albany that NYC can't even control its own speed cameras.
In his statement, Katz said he hoped the incident would "not overshadow the work I have done over the years for the public and my constituency."
