On Tuesday night, a controversial gala honoring Brazil's far-right president Jair Bolsonaro came to the Marriott Marquis, where attendees were confronted by outraged protesters.
A spokesperson for the Brazilian president said he'd cancelled the visit because of 'resistance and deliberate attacks from the mayor of New York and the pressure of interest groups.'
A rep for the Marriott confirmed to Gothamist that the annual fundraiser, hosted by the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, will take place inside the Marriott Marquis ballroom on May 14th.
No injuries have been reported, and a rescue is underway.
