There are only so many phone booths left in Manhattan, but before all of them go the way of Bill de Blasio's jolly good time porno tablets, they'll be playing host to some feminist guerrilla art courtesy of the Resistance Is Female project.

Resistance Is Female consists of a series of feminist posters from different New York City artists, slipped into the phone booths in the place of where their ads would usually go. According to one of the participants, a graphic artist who goes by the nom de plume Abe Lincoln Jr., the campaign by "a loosely affiliated group of female artists and their allies" started shortly after the Women's March and was "directly inspired by the Post It Protest in Union Square and Art in Ad Places."

Lincoln told us that the "resistance" part of their slogan "is referring to the newly minted administration in D.C.," but that the posters are also about trying to inspire people who have learned "that they could show up to a City Council meeting and their voices were actually heard and affect change."

"We hope we will inspire regular everyday citizens to keep doing their part. If they're on the way home from a sh--ty day at work or whatever, we want to remind and encourage them to do do what they do to and persevere," Lincoln, Jr. told us.

"As an artist and a woman, especially one who's been through a lot in my personal life, I feel it's my job to share positivity," Sara Erenthal, one of the artists included in the project, said about her involvement in it.

As for how anyone placing the art in phone booths manages to do it, Lincoln told us "we don't give away trade secrets on how it's done."
