It's no secret that Donald Trump has a bit of a problem with "the media"—since announcing his presidential bid last July, he's repeatedly claimed outlets are rigging the election against him, has threatened to sue the New York Times, and has repeatedly mocked and insulted reporters. And now, for the third time this election season, Trump has singled out NBC's Katy Tur—this time, for allegedly "not reporting" the size of his rallies.

During a rally in Miami, Trump pointed to the media pen and said, "These are some of the most dishonest people I've ever met, spoken to, or done business with. These are the most dishonest people," prompting his supporters to erupt into a chant of "CNN sucks."

Trump also repeated his now-regular claim that outlets "refuse" to show the large crowds drawn to his rallies before zeroing in on Tur. "There's something happening. They're not reporting it—Katy, you're not reporting it, Katy, but there's something happening, Katy," Trump said while pointing at Tur, who was standing on a press riser.

"Trump does know this to be incorrect. He's joked in private with reporters about how he undertsands how the pool camera works," Tur said on MSNBC that night. "This is a schtick that he does to rile up his base. It's to give them an excuse for polls that may not be in his favor, to give them an excuse to berate somebody other than Donald Trump."

Trump has lashed out at Tur before—last December, he referred to her as "Little Katy, [a] third-rate journalist" during a rally in South Carolina; in July, he snapped at her to "be quiet" after she asked a followup question at a press conference. And Trump's tirades against the media aren't just fueling his supporters' distrust of mainstream news outlets—they're putting individual reporters at risk of violence at the hands of his less stable supporters.

"The crowd, feeding off Trump, seemed to turn on me like a large animal, angry and unchained," Tur wrote about the South Carolina incident in an essay for Marie Claire. "It wasn't until hours later, when Secret Service took the extraordinary step of walking me to my car, that the incident sank in."

Trump's never-ending tirades against the media have also encouraged his supporters to disregard any and all news from "mainstream" outlets, since they're all rigged against him anyway (and don't forget, it's all controlled by ~~Jews~~international bankers!).

"If they can fight somebody like me who has unlimited resources to fight back, just look at what they can do to you," Trump said during a rally in Gettysburg where he also accused the women who accused him of sexual assault of colluding with the media to bring him down. "Your jobs, your security, your education, your healthcare, the violation of religious liberty, the theft of your Second Amendment, the loss of your factories, your jobs."

In Trumpland, the only good media is that which is created by the alt-right. Breitbart columnist Ann Coulter recently published a piece aiming to "humiliate the media!" An InfoWars post from earlier today called out an LA Times journalist for joking he'd "rather see Trump's life end" on Twitter. Without a hint of irony, they claimed this isn't the first time "that a journalist working for a major publication has 'joked' about wanting to see Trump dead," suggesting some sort of media conspiracy to kill Trump. (Trump supporters have previously threatened to assassinate Hillary Clinton or start a coup if she wins the election.)

But don't worry—a Trump victory will surely result in the creation of a new, state-sanctioned media that reports the best news, all the time, really tremendous coverage of beauty pageants and celebrity golf tournaments. And a Trump loss? Say hello to Trump TV.
