This week's question comes from a New Yorker who is worried about the welfare of a child in the custody of a panhandler.
State Senator Jeffery Klein called it an "outrageous situation, parents using their kids as human placards to panhandle to get money."
In the "Grandparent Scam," the scammer poses as a grandchild/niece/nephew in danger and in need of money.
Another NYPD brochure, this one from the Special Fraud Squad during the Koch administration, advising you to "Be aware of the con artist & the con game."
Both men allegedly told people they were father-and-son firefighters who were working at a firehouse near the World Trade Center on 9/11. This was a lie.
