Two pedestrians—one the mother of a Daily News reporter and the other a man walking on the Bruckner Expressway—were fatally struck by drivers this weekend, according to police.

On Friday at about 5 p.m., a dump-truck driver hit 62-year-old Jeri Pearson, who was in town from Cozy Corner, Wisconsin visiting her daughter, Daily News immigration reporter Erica Pearson. Paramedics drove Pearson to Kings County Hospital Center, where doctors pronounced her dead. The 39-year-old motorist was turning right from Putnam Avenue onto Bedford Avenue, police said. He stayed at the scene and has not been charged. A Police Department spokesman said it is not yet clear whether Pearson was crossing in the crosswalk or with the light, but that the investigation is ongoing.

The crash was the first recorded at the intersection this year, according to city data. Last year, the spot was the scene of eight crashes, including one that injured a pedestrian, the data show.

Pearson was a retired high-school Spanish teacher and onetime human rights observer at a Guatemalan refugee village, according to the News. She and her husband Marty raised daughter Erica and son Roberto in a log cabin in northern Wisconsin; Roberto died seven years ago in a construction accident.

Then on Saturday around 10:20 p.m., police responded to a call reporting a pedestrian struck on the Bruckner Expressway in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx. Investigators concluded that the driver of a Lexus RX sport utility vehicle hit the man, 29-year-old Caje Dawkins, after he walked onto the road near Stratford Avenue. Emergency medical responders transported him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died.

Dawkins was a resident of the nearby Lafayette Estates apartment complex, a Mitchell-Lama development, cops said. A police spokesman said it is not yet known what Dawkins was doing on the expressway. Police have not charged the driver.
