weather radarIt looks like we are going to have a bit of snow to complement our cold weather. Only an inch or two is expected in the city, but we'll take what we can get. For reasons Gothamist doesn't understand, the local radar shows extremely heavy precipitation headed our way (the red and orange blob in New Jersey, the stuff on Long Island is ground clutter). This doesn't make any sense as snow doesn't reflect the radar beam nearly as well as rain. We think this is a glitch in the image processing algorithm as some radars show the snow in bright reds and purples while others correctly display it in blues and greens.

The quick moving storm that is bringing us snow later today will also bring us a quick break from the cold weather. It should be above freezing tomorrow before getting cold again on Friday. If extended forecasts are to be believed, our temperatures should be above normal again late next week.
