A woman was struck by the driver of a minivan as she attempted to cross an Upper East Side intersection this morning.
The 66-year-old victim, identified as Keiko Ohnishi, was walking with the help of a cane across Madison Avenue near East 98th Street when the driver of a silver Town & Country minivan hit her in the crosswalk while making a lefthand turn, the Daily News reports.
"She flew up in the air," a witness told the tabloid. "She dropped back down and went under the back of the van. The back wheels somehow ran over her legs. Everyone started yelling, 'Stop!' and he stopped."
The 24-year-old driver remained on the scene, and Ohnishi was taken across the street to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she is in critical condition. Witnesses said it appeared the driver was simply in a rush when he hit Ohnishi.
