A 26-year-old woman and her three children were stabbed inside a Staten Island hotel on Wednesday morning—reportedly by the woman's boyfriend. The children, all girls, are currently in critical condition, while sources tell the Staten Island Advance their mother has died. The NYPD has not confirmed the fatality, but a spokesperson said the alleged stabber fled the scene, and no arrests have been made at this time.

This particular Ramada Inn is one of four Staten Island hotels currently housing homeless families. The Advance reported in January that the City is paying $158 a night on average per room.

Cops and EMS responded to the hotel, located at 535 North Gannon Avenue, around 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday. There, they discovered the woman and her three children with serious stab wounds. All four victims were taken to area hospitals.

The News reports that two of the children are babies and the third is a 5-year-old girl, although the NYPD could not immediately confirm this.

A homeless man with documented mental health issues stabbed his roommate to death in an East Harlem shelter last month, prompting Mayor de Blasio to announce additional security at city shelters for the mentally ill.

UPDATE: The NYPD has identified the suspect as 23-year-old Michael Sykes.
