Police are investigating a sexual assault that took place in Manhattan yesterday afternoon when a woman went into the public park bathroom in Union Square.
According to the NYPD, the incident took place around 1 p.m. near East 17th Street. A 63-year-old woman was approached by a man who demanded she perform a criminal sex act on him. She apparently bit down on his hand, causing him to flee.
WABC 7 reports that the suspect is homeless and that he groped her. A parkgoer said, "I just showed up when the officer had went in there, and the door was open, and he was talked to a lady. I think she was freaking out. I think she had just got done crying."
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of pain and is in stable condition. The park bathroom was closed after the incident.
The suspect, described as being in his 30s and wearing a camouflage jacket, is being sought.
