A 26-year-old man was arrested last night for allegedly stabbing and choking his ex-girlfriend during a fight at Brooklyn Bridge Park, police said.

Fernando Perez and his 23-year-old girlfriend began arguing around 7 p.m. on the corner of Water Street and Washington Street in DUMBO, as first reported by A Walk In The Park. According to police, Perez told his girlfriend that if she didn't take him back, no one else could have her and then stabbed her with a knife in her left forearm.

When the woman tried to get away, Perez allegedly punched and began to strangle her before stabbing her again in her lower back. Police said the woman tried to call 911, but Perez took her phone before she was able to make the call. The victim then convinced Perez to let her go to the bathroom at the Brooklyn Bridge Park to clean herself up.

Witnesses called 911, leading to Perez's arrest. He was charged with felony assault, strangulation, grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property.

Police found the woman in the bathroom at Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. She was taken to Methodist Hospital and is expected to live.
