2008_05_davila.jpgLast night, a woman was found dead in a SUV which was parked on the second floor of an Essex Street parking garage. The woman, identified as 39-year-old Leonida Davila, was slashed in the throat. Her body was wrapped in a blanket, in the front passenger seat.

The Daily News says the car, a Chevy Suburban, is registered to Davila's estranged husband William Davila, who lives on Rutgers Street. The couple reportedly has a history of domestic violence incidents. He is now a "person of interest." He is described as being 5'6" and 160 pounds, with dark hair and brown eyes. People with information should call Crimestoppers at 800-577-TIPS.

Lower East Side residents expressed shock at the crime, which took place amid all the gentrification. One told NY1, "I am surprised because it's turned into a fairly safe neighborhood."
