A 32-year-old woman was killed in Greenpoint last night after two drivers struck her while she crossed the street.
Authorities say Nicole Detweiler, a Brooklyn resident, was crossing at the intersection of McGuinness Boulevard at Nassau Ave at around 5:30 p.m. yesterday evening. According to the NYPD, she was struck first by a driver operating a brown BMW, and then by a driver in a white Isuzu box truck. Both drivers were driving southbound on McGuinness Boulevard in parallel lanes.
The victim was pronounced at the scene. The two drivers remained on the scene, and 35-year-old Roberto Amador, who was driving the box truck, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Residents say the intersection has been problematic for some time. "This intersection is just so prone to people going really fast and there have been a lot of obvious mishaps," one area resident, Paul Dekel, told NBC News. "It's really upsetting me to see it. It's hard to see something like this during this time of year."
