A 76-year-old woman was fatally struck by a driver in Middle Village, Queens yesterday after investigators say she tripped and fell in the street.
Giovanna Livolsi was crossing Metropolitan Avenue between 74th and 75th streets around 3:30 p.m. when she tumbled onto the street. Her fall apparently went unnoticed by the 25-year-old driver of a 2014 Ford Escape stopped at a red light at the intersection. When the signal turned green, he hit the gas, crushing Livolsi, according to the NYPD.
The driver continued to head south on Metropolitan until he was alerted to the incident, at which point he returned to the scene and called the police.
Livolsi was pronounced dead on arrival at Elmhurst Hospital Center. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
