Police arrested an alleged hit-and-run driver this afternoon after they say he hit and critically injured a 21-year-old woman in Far Rockaway.

The Daily News reported that the woman was walking with her child when she was struck, but managed to push the little one out of the way. An NYPD spokesman said he did not have an indication of whether the victim was on the sidewalk or in the street, because that is still under investigation.

Paramedics rushed the woman to Jamaica Hospital Center.

Cops caught up to the male suspect near the Seagirt Boulevard and Beach 19th Street crash scene and arrested him at 1:37 p.m. His identity has not been released because he has yet to be charged, but the News reported he was driving a white Ford Mustang that had three outstanding tickets—two for illegal parking, and one for speeding.

The intersection where the crash occurred has been the site of seven crashes so far this year, leaving two car occupants injured, according to city data.
