Police are searching for a man suspected of trying to rape a woman in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. The suspect allegedly used a knife to cut her clothing.

The rape attempt happened yesterday morning, September 15th, at 5 a.m. Investigators say a 45-year-old woman sitting outside of 143 Smith Street in Cobble Hill was approached by a man, who "started a conversation offering to buy the victim a soda and cigarettes. Both walked to a Rite Aid store located at 120 Court Street and purchased the items. "

After they left the store, police say the man "attempted to rape the victim in the vicinity of Pacific Street and Court Street by attempting to choke the victim with a black video cord. The suspect also attempted to remove the victim's clothing with a knife. The victim began to scream and the suspect fled on Pacific Street towards Boerum Place."

Police released Rite Aid's video of the suspect, describing him as approximately 5'4" and 30 years of age, wearing a black leather vest with studs on the back, a light colored shirt, dark colored jeans and black cowboy boots.
