A 34-year-old woman was arrested this week after she allegedly punched a 9-year-old girl in the Essex/Delancey Street F, J, M & Z subway station on the Lower East Side.

Police say that Latrice Jasper attacked the unnamed little girl at around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, on a subway platform. When the child's mother tried to stop Jasper, police say she hit her in the head. It's unclear what provoked the assault.

The victims were taken to Beth Israel Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Jasper was arrested on Wednesday and charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
