Last August was the second-warmest August since Central Park records began in 1869. Last month was the second-warmest September ever. You can see on the graph how the temperatures never fell to normal (bigger, prettier graph on the Gopthamist Flickr pool). Friday was the only day last month when the daily average temperature was below normal. Combined August and September averaged 76.5 degrees. The warmest August-September ever! We beat out 1980 by nearly a degree. The coldest August-September span was the chilly 65.9 degrees in 1887.

But wait, there's more! The temperature for this past combined July-August-September was tied with 1980 for the warmest ever. Looking over a longer time period, June-July-August-September 2005 blows away 1983 and 1980 as the warmest four consecutive months ever measured in Central Park
