A rash of violence swept through the city Friday night and into Saturday morning, leaving five dead and five injured in four boroughs.
The violence started around 11:30 p.m. on Friday in the Hamilton Heights section of Manhattan, when Michael Patalano, 48, allegedly stabbed his 49-year-old neighbor Anthony Demarta in the chest. The neighbor was pronounced dead at the scene, and Patalano has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon; cops believe the two men were arguing over property they had allegedly stolen.
Not long after midnight on Saturday, at around 12:20 a.m., cops say a 36-year-old man was shot in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn; he was taken to Kings County Hospital and pronounced dead, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and back, and cops believe he was fighting with another man when he was shot.
Only a few minutes later, at 12:26 a.m., 19-year-old Kahleed Adams was fatally shot in the Bronx. He was pronounced dead at the scene, with gunshot wounds to his hand, head and back. An hour later, a 10-year-old girl was shot in Far Rockaway, Queens; she was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. Around 4 a.m., three people were shot in Canarsie, Brooklyn, and hospitalized with minor injuries.
Around 3 a.m., a rookie NYPD officer shot and killed an armed suspect in the South Bronx.
And at just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, a 33-year-old man and a 32-year-old-man were shot in Jamaica, Queens. The 32-year-old was shot in the ankle and the 33-year-old had a gunshot wound to the chest; both were taken to Jamaica Hospital, and the 33-year-old was pronounced dead.
