The center of the paparazzi universe might be the Waldorf Towers at 100 East 50th Street. That's because Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and their brood of children are renting a $100,000/month apartment at the hotel. The Post reports that the Jolie-Pitts "began recently living in a newly renovated, roughly 6,000-square-foot apartment" that has "five bedrooms plus a library that they have converted into a sixth, up to six baths and a huge gourmet kitchen." And there are terraces (plural!).

The Waldorf Towers has a dress code (no "T-shirts, tank tops, faded jeans, cut-offs and casual hats" - is a pork pie hat casual?) and "room service, twice-daily maid service, a round-the-clock concierge -- even a weekly magic show for the kids." Apparently the celebrity couple was thinking about renting at the Time-Warner Center (they do love the Whole Foods there) but got a price break for the Waldorf Towers residence. Other pros: It's closer to the United Nations, Maddox's school, and FAO Schwarz. And interestingly enough, Jolie's father Jon Voight, who she is estranged from, was seen at the Waldorf-Astoria.

A Curbed reader gave a reasonable explanation of why the couple might choose to rent, given that a comparable apartment might cost $20 million and there are no transaction costs. Still, is that worth raising your kids where Paris Hilton spent some of her childhood?
