There was utter pandemonium at Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn yesterday as hundreds of rowdy teenagers (gasp!) ran wildly through the shopping center, screaming, roughhousing and allegedly shoplifting. It's unclear what caused all the ruckus; there were rumors that the rapper Fabulous would be performing at the mall, and police sources tell the Daily News a scuffle began "because one girl was wearing a shirt with a picture of another girl and a derogatory phrase about her." Regardless of the cause, things appeared to spiral out of control quickly, as you can see from these chaotic videos:
In that top video, it appears that one young woman is being taken into custody (after a man in uniform drags her by the hair), but police say no arrests were made. “I’ve been here seven years and I have never seen anything like this before — I’m so scared. I know they will come back,” Abu Tabel, a clerk at Candy Plaza 2, tells the Post. “I was begging them to stop. There were a lot of kids hundreds of kids… [Security] would chase them out one door and they would come back in another door.”
Another merchant tells the tabloid, "People were getting really scared. A tall white guy with a grey bubble coat was wearing a ski mask and a skull cap and he had his hand under his coat like he was holding a gun." As one teen put it on Facebook, "Kings Plaza was on tilt today." Oh, to be young again.
