Police are looking for a yarmulke-wearing thief who stole two silver Torah crowns from a Queens synagogue WHILE evening services were going on. According to the News, Young Israel of Queens Valley reported that the crowns—worth $650 each—were stolen Thursday evening from an ark in the basement. You can see surveillance footage of the thief below.

The suspect—who was seen wearing a white T-shirt, gray pants and a black yarmulke—first picked up a prayer book to blend in with the crowd before sneaking into the unlocked ark. Synagogue leaders told the News they initially thought he was a volunteer there to clean up the ark before Rosh Hashanah. “We had no idea. This has never happened in the 50 years of the synagogue,” the synagogue's executive director George Srolovits said. Anyone with information in regards to this theft is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
