A man was caught on camera methodically placing a stack of broken-down cardboard boxes beside a Manhattan building and setting the bundle ablaze earlier this month. Why? That's what police would like to know.

The NYPD released security camera footage of the puzzling incident on Thanksgiving. It goes without saying that this is not how you deep fry a turkey:

Investigators say the fire was set around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8th in front of 312 East 30th Street in Kips Bay. After setting the boxes on fire, the man ran off to points unknown, presumably in search of other, stupider adventures. Nobody was injured, but police say there was some damage to the building.

Anyone with information in regard to the identity of the male is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website or on Twitter @ NYPDTips.

All calls are kept strictly confidential.
