Police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after fatally hitting a pedestrian as he crossed the street in College Point, Queens on Sunday.

According to the NYPD, 41-year-old Mariano Contreras was crossing College Point Boulevard around 1:09 a.m. when he was struck by the driver of a dark Jeep Grand Cherokee. Contreras was thrown to the ground, and first responders found him unconscious and unresponsive on the righthand shoulder of the road's northbound lane. He was taken to New York Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are still searching for the driver, and have released the following surveillance video.
