One of the more ambitious direct actions during Monday's Occupy Wall Street anniversary protests involved an attempt to stop traffic on the West Side Highway. As you may know, it's a big highway, with lots of lanes and speeding traffic, so it would have been hard to pull off even without the NYPD all over them. And all over them they were, as this video, published on YouTube today, makes abundantly clear:

The NYPD made over 180 arrests during the day of protests, charging most demonstrators with disorderly conduct. On the West Side Highway, one protester, Julene Garcia, tearfully told us her boyfriend "got pushed [off the median] and separated from me, and they tackled him down to the ground. He wasn't even resisting arrest, he just got pushed off the sidewalk."
