An MTA bus burst into flames on Thursday morning on the corner of 45th Street and Lexington Avenue. Photos from the scene show an M101 bus with multiple windows blown out in the rear and flames on either side of the bus.
There were no passengers on board at the time of the fire, the MTA said, and the driver was not injured. The fire department showed up at 45th Street and Lexington Avenue at 6:40 a.m., according to an FDNY spokesperson who said the fire was under control within an hour.
Other midtown buses were rerouted as a result of the fire, but they resumed regular service before 8 a.m., according to the MTA.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. We'll update as more information becomes available.
