When news of CIA director and four-star general David Petraeus' sudden resignation over an extramarital affair broke on Friday, it was quickly revealed that his girlfriend was his biographer Paula Broadwell. And it did not go without notice that Broadwell, a West Point graduate and fitness buff, had appeared on the Daily Show earlier this year, challenging Jon Stewart to a push-up contest. Naturally Stewart had to address the coincidence—and his lack of affair radar—last night.
Stewart told his audience, "The whole thing was like innuendo after innuendo! The whole time I'm like DUHHHHH.... I had her right there, talking about what a thick coat of awesome sauce Petraeus is bathed in...and the f***ing thing never crossed my mind! The whole time I was just staring at how defined her arms were and trying to think of another version of my classic 'I'm an asthmatic old Jew' jokes... I'm the worst journalist in the world! For God's sake, the title of her book was 'All In'! She might as well have named it 'What's Got Two Thumbs And Is Banging His Biographer'!"
He also delved into the various conspiracy theories surrounding the affair, which involves another lady and Rep. Eric Cantor.
