Police have released video that they believe shows the four men involved in the killing of 16-year-old Raphael Ward on the Lower East Side on Friday night. Ward, who was a standout athlete and lived in the nearby Baruch houses with his mother and sister, reportedly knew that his assailants were looking for him, and wrote "I'm dead" on his Facebook wall hours before the shooting.
A police source told the Daily News that "someone was trying to take [Ward's] coat" at around 9:10 p.m. when he was shot at Rivington and Columbia Streets. Ward's murder was the first of 2013 in Manhattan.
The NYPD describes the gunman as being 5'6", weighing 120 to 140 lbs and note that he was wearing a wool hat and a ski mask at the time of the shooting. The first man walking through the door of this deli appears to match that description.
