[UPDATE BELOW] Things got a little out of hand at yesterday's game between the Cowboys and Jets at MetLife Stadium, as things sometimes do in the stands at sporting contests. (Even the upscale U.S. Open has seen its share of spectator fights.) But what sets this altercation apart was the introduction of some sort of stun gun or Taser into the action. Here's chaotic video, first posted by Deadspin, in which you can hear that always unnerving zapping sound in the first few seconds:
We're trying to find out from the MetLife Stadium folks what this was all about, but as a fan asks toward the end of the video, how did this guy get a stun gun into the stadium in the first place? Deadspin speculates that "maybe the man in the Cowboys jersey zapping everybody pummeling him was a stadium marshal hired to quickly neutralize stadium brawls so they wouldn't show up on NY1 or YouTube tonight and ruin all the never-forgetting and nationalistic pride." Or maybe the guy just sneaked the Taser past security in his Stashitware? Developing...
UPDATE: Mark Lamping, President & CEO of MetLife Stadium, has issued this statement: "On Sunday evening, a man entered the Stadium with an illegal taser the size of a small cell phone in his pocket. The taser was later used in an altercation with fans, during which no one was seriously injured. The man was immediately arrested. Procedures for pat downs established by the NFL and used at every game were in effect at all entry gates."
