Bronx residents were treated to an impromptu pyrotechnics display yesterday when some contraption above the entrance to the 219th Street 2/5 subway station went on a prolonged rampage, shooting torrents of sparks into the air for what appears to be a damn long time.
Possibly the most puzzling portion of the video occurs at the 2:20 mark, in which a fire truck on the scene apparently decides its services are needed elsewhere, and rolls the fuck away. The fire—which an FDNY spokesperson said appears to be electrical, though no further information is currently available—continues to burn brightly, and the sparks are still flying when the video ends. The MTA did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the fire.
Do you live in the Bronx? Is the fire still going, like some sort of MTA Olympic Flame? Do let us know.
