Police are hoping the public can help them identify the suspect in an attempted rape that took place yesterday morning in the East Village.
According to the NYPD, just after 6 a.m. on December 28, a male followed a 22-year-old woman into an apartment building on East 6th Street and then "sexually assaulted her in the stairwell." The victim was taken to Beth Israel Hospital with minor injuries and is in stable condition.
Investigators released surveillance video of the suspect, and police describe him as being approximately 25 years old and approximately 180 pounds with short hair. He was wearing a dark baseball cap, a black bubble jacket, blue jeans and black sneakers.
