Christie Brinkley is back in Chicago next month for an encore performance as the killer Roxy Hart, and to get the media rolling she stopped by Today for a chat with Matt Lauer this morning. But instead of talking about all that jazz, things got heavy quick when the subject of her still-bitter-four-years-later divorce with porn-addicted, assistant-boinking architect Peter Cook came up at the start. The one upside to an incredibly uncomfortable interview? Even while crying, the original Uptown Girl looks really good at 58.
The interview was something of a turning point for Brinkley—though it isn't clear if she meant it to be—as she's desperately tried to keep her divorce out of the papers from the start. "There's not one quote from me, anywhere. This is the first time I've ever been on a show (to talk about the split)." But after her ex, who she says has not been paying his $600-per-child alimony, kept turning to the press (see here) she couldn't take it anymore. Lady is really not happy.
Brinkley mostly seems to want it to all just stop, but she does get some digs in. Cook has been quoted as calling Brinkley a "narcissistic egomaniac," so today she reminded Matt Lauer that she's "not alone" in her circumstance. "I've gotten hundreds of letters from women that are going through this" she said before pointing out you can "Google 'divorcing a narcissist'" to learn more about what her life is like.
And it goes on and on. Honestly, it is painful to watch (yet hard to look away from). "I just want peace," Brinkley cries toward the end of the interview. "And every time I have any joy or any kind of success in anything, he has to try to destroy it."
