costcono.jpgNot really a surprise, the Costco rumored to be eyeing the property between West 59th and 61st streets, near the West Side Highway, has been told to take a hike. West Side Spirit reports that the "proposal to put a Costco in the 3.3 million square-foot Riverside South development project has been nixed. The developer, Extell Development Co., made calls to elected Upper West Side officials on Sept. 26 to announce the newest change in the plan." Rep. Jerrold Nadler was pleased with the developer's flexibility, and noted "he would push to add a new school, control density and a get an appropriate mix of affordable and market-rate housing." In reality, it probably won't be too soon that IKEA comes calling and entices the developers with Swedish meatballs and reasonably priced sofas.
