Because old-timey weaponry never really goes out of style, an upstate man was arrested for harassment this week after allegedly repeatedly firing an unloaded Civil War cannon at his neighbors, presumably mistaking them for a scalawag gang of Sherman's bummers.

Authorities say that 52-year-old Brian Malta of Kiantone, NY—located about 60 miles south of Buffalo along the Pennsylvania border—aimed and fired the vintage long tom cannon at the homes of his neighbors this week, after reportedly being involved in a longstanding dispute with them.

Though the cannon was only loaded with powder charge and wadding, Malta was arrested Wednesday and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office confiscated his weapon. He was released on $2,500 bail and charged with three counts of 2nd degree menacing, three counts of 2nd degree harassment and presumably one count of restarting the War of Northern Aggression.
