[UPDATES BELOW] A man is climbing the exterior of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue using suction cups, according to witnesses and the NYPD. He reportedly reached the fifth floor a little after 4 p.m. Wednesday, and video shows that numerous cops—and onlookers—are on the scene.

[UPDATE 4:30]: You can track his progress live, here, from ABC, and here:

[Update 5:00]: Responders are sawing a hole in a window above the climber, and lowering a window-washing gondola towards him. The climber recently paused to put on a baseball hat, and take sips of an energy drink.

[Update 5:20]: ABC is reporting that the climber has reached the 17th floor of Trump Tower. An airbag has been set up on 56th Street, and another a few stories above street level, on the building's landing.

[Update 5:45]: The Post talked to witness Gerald Iorio, who works across the street from the tower. Iorio said that the climber, who appeared to be in "great shape," took out signs from his backpack mid-climb to show to people inside the building. When cops broke a window and dismantled an air conditioning vent near the climber, he maneuvered away from them.

TV networks are reporting the climber's name is Steve, and that he's from Virginia.

[Update 5:57 p.m.]: The NYPD is lowering the window washing gondola on another side of the building. Special Ops is also trying to break another window above him.

Video has also emerged of a young man titled "Message to Mr. Trump (why I climbed Trump Tower)":

"Steve" apparently also dropped a laptop and a notebook with messages during the initial part of his climb.

[Update 6:18 p.m.]: The NYPD has removed two windows above the climber's path.

[Update 6:25 p.m.]: Michael Cohen, a VP in the Trump organization and his legal council released this statement (via Eyewitness News). "This man performed a ridiculous and dangerous stunt. There's damage to the building and he caused the unnecessary deployment of New York's finest to protect his safety and the safety of everyone in the building. He's caused the shutdown of traffic on Fifth Avenue. I'm 100 percent certain the NYPD had better things to do. If Mr. Trump were here he'd be thankig law encorcement for the job they're doing."

He's currently around the 20th floor, and a police source says he's carrying leaflets which are "about self promotion," though it's unclear what he's promoting.

[Update 6:35]: The police grabbed him and brought him into the building through a window.

[Update 7:10 p.m.]: Steve has been removed from the building.

Earlier: Police responded to the report of a man climbing Trump Tower at 725 Fifth Avenue between East 56th and 57th Streets at 3:40 p.m., a spokeswoman for the department confirmed. She had no additional information as of late Wednesday afternoon.
