[UPDATE BELOW] A man accidentally shot himself inside Zabar's on the Upper West Side this morning, according to police.

The NYPD says the incident happened at around 9:35 a.m., inside the gourmet market's cafe on the corner of West 80th Street and Broadway. The man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and fled westbound on 80th Street immediately after he shot himself. Though the NYPD was unable to provide further detail, DNAinfo reports that he was waiting on line at the cafe to purchase items when the gun, which was reportedly stashed in his waistband, discharged.

The FDNY says they received no reports of injuries, and the NYPD has described the man as 5'9" and heavyset. The investigation is ongoing.

Zabar's Cafe declined to comment on the incident.

Update 5:03 p.m.: The Wall Street Journal has identified the Zabar's shooter as Leston Anderson, 48.

Anderson is apparently homeless, and police say he claims he found the gun near the Lincoln Tunnel. Anderson was reportedly paying for his bagel and coffee when the gun accidentally went off. He was treated for a gunshot wound at Mount Sinai West hospital.
