[UPDATE BELOW] A driver was arrested and charged with failure to yield after he struck and killed a 67-year-old man in a Queens crosswalk, according to police.

Cops say at 7:29 p.m. last night, Dinesh Bhattarai, 45, was headed eastbound in his Toyota Rav 4 on 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights when he made a right turn onto southbound 76 Street. There, police say he struck 67-year-old Henry Boimel, who was in the crosswalk crossing 76th Street. Boimel was transported to Elmhurst General Hospital and pronounced dead; Bhattarai was arrested today and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk, according to police.

DNAinfo reports that Bhattarai is an Uber driver, but it's unclear if he was on duty when he allegedly struck Boimel.

Also last night, an unidentified woman was fatally struck by the driver of a tractor trailer near Prospect Park. Police say at 8:25 p.m. the woman who is believed to be in her 40s, was crossing Caton Avenue at Saint Paul’s Place when the driver, who was traveling eastbound on Caton Avenue, hit her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

NBC New York reports the driver left the scene, and when he was eventually located by police, he said he didn't know he'd hit anyone. Police say no arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
