UPDATE: Three Shot In Downtown Brooklyn

Update: An NYPD spokesperson has confirmed that three people were shot on a street in Downtown Brooklyn on Friday afternoon. Although initial reports from the NYPD stated that two were shot (with a spokesperson later saying that a third person was merely "grazed"), officials now say three people were shot.

A 31-year-old man was shot in the left eye, while a 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were both shot in their left hands, according to a police spokesperson. All victims were taken to Methodist Hospital in stable condition.

A police spokeswoman said the shooting occurred a little before 2 p.m. near Fulton Street and Gallatin Place on the Fulton Street Mall.

The spokeswoman said that the police were still investigating the shooting, and that the suspect is described as a black male wearing a white hat and red shorts.

NY1 reports that stores in the area were evacuated.

R train rider Heather Doss told Gothamist that her train was held in Jay Street-Metrotech for 15 minutes or so around 2 p.m. when a dozen uniformed and plainclothes NYPD officers appeared and began searching each car one by one. Doss said that one officer told passengers in her car they were "looking for someone," and soon after that announcement they pulled someone off the train.

"He was hiding either in the car directly in front of me, or in between the cars I couldn't tell exactly, but we did see them pull him off the train. He did seem to come willingly," Doss said.

An MTA spokesperson confirmed that the NYPD held the R train in the station but referred further comment to the police.

The NYPD spokeswoman could not say whether the man they pulled off the train was a suspect in the shooting.

We'll update as we learn more.
