[UPDATE BELOW] A motorist behind the wheel of a white BMW SUV killed a cyclist in the Bronx yesterday evening just after 7 p.m. Police say, the victim, 18-year-old David Oliveras, was riding his bike on the sidewalk on the east side of the Williamsbridge Road, headed south. According to a preliminary investigation, Oliveras tried to cross over to the west side of Williamsbridge Road when he was hit by the SUV driver, who was headed north.

Oliveras was unconscious and unresponsive when EMTs arrived at the scene. He was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced DOA. "The kid got creamed," one witness tells the Post. "He went flying out his sneakers." The tabloid also spoke with the unidentified driver, who stayed at the scene and later remarked, "I feel terrible. I didn’t see him. I didn’t want to hit him. He came out of nowhere." The NYPD press office tells us there is no criminality suspected.

Update 10:49 a.m.: Another witness tells NBC New York, "He wasn't in the street, he was by the curb. I feel like [the car] was going too fast, to hit him that hard."
