[UPDATE 10/16: The case has been dismissed and sealed; details here.] The NYPD has identified the man accused of taking upskirt photography in the York Street F station in DUMBO. According to investigators, the suspect's name is Boyd Shropshire, 29, a Queens resident. He's charged with unlawful surveillance (a felony), and police say he "used a cell phone to record under the victim's skirt without her knowledge or consent." As it happens, we interviewed Mr. Shropshire back in 2005 when he was in the band Human Television.

Shropshire has a fairly public Internet profile, and it appears he is still making music, possibly operating a record label out of his home. According to his website, he also does freelance work as a graphic designer and typographer. (You'll note that for now we're dropping the scare quotes around the word "hipster," which is how one witness originally described the suspect.)

We reached out to Shropshire to seek comment on the allegation, but the call went straight to voicemail. (It's quite possible he's still in custody, as he was arrested yesterday afternoon.) We'll update as more information becomes available, and stress again that this is still merely an allegation... though he does love his upward pics.
