The city's subways are up and running, as are the buses, but the commuter rails that feed into the region are not faring so well. Five Long Island Rail Road lines—Far Rockaway, Long Beach, Montauk, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson—are suspended while Metro-North and NJ Transit are totally suspended.

The PATH is operational, and one rider just asked, on Twitter, "First trip on NWK @PATHTweet. Car 5128 a bit stinky. Normal?" The PATH replied, " I've forwarded your tweet to the appropriate PATH division for action."

Update: Mayor Bloomberg's office just Tweeted, "LIRR has restored service on its major lines, with some delays and cancellations. Some Metro-North should be restored this afternoon." NJ Transit is still out.
