[Update Below] A man is reportedly in critical condition after being shot by cops following an altercation in the East Village.

According to cops, the shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. today on East 6th Street near Avenue A. Police didn't have any other details about the shooting, except that one person was taken to Beth Israel Hospital.

According to the Post, "Two police officers suffered lacerations to their heads but it wasn’t immediately clear if they were attacked by the suspect." A witness at the scene told EV Grieve, "I think there was a scuffle and then the single shot. I heard that. Other people who happened to be right there said they heard a scuffle."

Update 3:40 p.m.The Post is now reporting that shooting victim has died of his injuries. They add that cops had tried to arrest him at an East Village halfway house. We'll update as we learn more.
