Classic: After announcing that service from NJ into lower Manhattan was coming back today at 5 a.m. (after being out for four weeks), the PATH has now suspended from Newark to World Trade Center. The PATH just Tweeted, "#Alert Due to a power problem, #PATH NWK-WTC service is currently suspended. PATH service is operating between NWK-33. Please RT." Additionally, the turnstiles were down at Exchange Place, so it's all for the best—RIGHT?

The PATH was out because of severe damage from Hurricane Sandy (see the video below). Salt water + electrical wiring do not do well together, and NY1 reports, "The Port Authority says there is no timeframe for fixing the problem... The authority is currently unsure whether the damage is related to effects from Hurricane Sandy."

Naturally, folks are now waiting for the ferry—here's the line at Exchange Place, taken by Mike Siegel (click to enlarge):

Also, there are complaints of issues along the Harrison to 33rd Street line.

Update 10 a.m.: PATH says service is back along the lower Manhattan line. We'll see how long it lasts now!
