Service on the L line is currently suspended due to "FDNY activity" between 1st Avenue and Bedford Avenue. As of 8:30 a.m., there is NO L train service between 8th Avenue in Manhattan and Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn. The MTA suggests that "as an alternative, customers are advised to use the M14A or M14D bus service making nearby station stops." Who loves you, baby?
Jefftown resident and L train rider Rebecca Fishbein tells us there was an announcement about a "smoke condition in the tunnel," followed by a sad parade of despair to nearest the bus stop. The MTA and the FDNY did not immediately respond to our inquiries, but we'll update as more information becomes available.
Update 8:54 a.m.: Despite that on-train announcement about a "smoke condition in the tunnel," an MTA spokesman tells us the report of smoke was "unfounded" and "service is back." The MTA website says "train service has resumed with residual delays."
