A 23-year-old Florida man was fatally struck by a train on the Upper West Side early this morning. According to police, 23-year-old Bobby Legrand Guin was struck by a northbound local A train at the Cathedral Parkway-110th Street station around 5:15 a.m.
Guin was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police couldn't say how or why Guin, who was from Mary Esther, Florida, ended up on the tracks. The investigation is still ongoing, and we'll update as more information becomes available.
Update: Although police couldn't confirm these details with us, the Wall Street Journal and NBC claim that Guin had jumped down onto the subway tracks to retrieve some $20 bills that were lying there. Police did add that no criminality is suspected in the incident.
